Under the name of NORMAL STUDIO, Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï defend an Elementary Design. These two creators are less attached to the formal search for an object than to the tool that will make it, the very one that generates the shape and guides them in the first sketches of a chair, table or luminaire. Behind their name lies an appetite for the right forms.
Deeply attached to the social and cultural values of design, these authors produce timeless objects against fashions and postures. The product design with industry (Tolix, SEB, Tefal, Schneider Electric) or the experimental micro-series (CIRVA, Eno, Manufacture de Sèvres) testify to their ability to work at different scales. Working with a variety of materials, pressed sheet metal, wood, marble, leather, ceramic, glass, plastic, these two designers are also used to technology transfers. In 2016, Normal Studio celebrates its 10th anniversary on the French scene, a presence already noticed by many awards. The Design/Company prize at Designer's Day 2010 crowns their collaboration with Tolix, for which they were artistic director from 2007 to 2013; the Creator of the Year prize at the NOW! exhibition at Maison & Objet; the ELLE Déco Award and numerous VIA Labels, as well as the entry of part of their production into the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain and the Centre Georges Pompidou. In 2019, he added a string to their bow with the complete renovation of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, and the scenography of all the collections presented there.
The Woody fruit basket created for Designerbox in the summer of 2019, perfectly reflects the studio's original creative approach and their attachment to the material and know-how
