FIRST RELEASE — POOL BOWL
Lewis Power is an award-winning British designer who graduated in Industrial Design at Northumbria University, School of Design. He has since established his studio focusing on lighting and commonplace objects, exhibiting his first collection of products at the renowned Stockholm Furniture Fair where he received the Editors Choice Rising Star Award 2020 and the Front Mentorship Programme. Among these, he has won multinational awards and exhibited in the MOOD Museum of Design, Como, Italy.
Lewis's direction explores the balance between traditional archetypes and a considered eye for the future. He believes through the variety of materials and processes available, sensitivity must be maintained to not only produce aesthetically pleasing objects but the experience and overall usefulness that follows. His latest Cast Collection, a series of hand made cast-iron objects, has much anticipation from this promising young designer.
Design Process by Lewis
In a nutshell.
It starts with a sketch—not always but often aided by a glass of wine. The drawing - better yet a scribble - is a way for me to pull the form out of my head. I will develop the design working proportions and scale making full use of the page. Having gotten so far with this I will move onto my Mac, building and developing the 3D model in CAD and rendering software seeing the first glimpse of tangibility. At this point, the design render is far from the scribble, yet is reminiscent of it.
