In pinyin transcription (the translation system of mandarin to latin alphabet’s signs), these two signs, Jin Shi literally mean "gold" and "stone" or « Golden Stone ». This is a reference to the meaning and the aesthetics of this piece whose inspiration is actually a journey into the core of nature. Stem vase, its shape is built around a natural marble base and a branch of metal, mirroring the classical form of Ming vase. MVW studio offers a contemporary interpretation of an internal Chinese miniature landscape. By its golden color, this stem vase symbolizes the preciousness of nature, represented by the flower or branch. The ensemble, in harmony between aesthetic and symbolic dimensions, invites us to discover a world of dreams, poetry and grace.
The natural stone of which the Jin Shi stem vase is made was carefully cut and polished. A circular notch cut obliquely inside allows the piece to retain the metal structure creating the perfect verticality of the object. Each piece was made by a different atelier and assembled with delicate gestures. This sculptural object is built day by day playing with the emptiness a well as the fulness of its shapes.
Created by Shanghai based Design MVW, this vase takes us into the core of contemporary Chinese design. Packed with references to the modernity of Chinese tradition, Jin Shi or 金石 literally means "Gold" and "Stone" or « Golden Stone"
