Multidisciplinary designer and intermedia artist
Tilen Sepič is a multidisciplinary designer, intermedia artist and promoter of "open source" culture. His experience with light is manifesting in light-design objects, iot design, product photography and light installations. Currently he is developing a practice on research and development of his own products and installations in fields of light design, light art and new-media art.
What made you want to become a designer?
Curiosity; Exploration of surroundings and the need for making, creating, playing.
Do you have a preferred material? If so, which one? Is it related to a particular meeting or event?
Lately I prefer to work with mediums that are less “material”, such as light and sound.
How would you summarize your approach to design?
I tend to approach a project exploring basic fundamentals of an object / problem / service / artwork / function, and then build from there.
What inspires you on a daily basis?
Nature, and how interconnected it is. Mundane moments, like a beautiful afternoon sky.
The starting point of your creations? (the material, the shape, a particular desire?)
I try to experiment as much as possible with an actual material, and what is available in the specific scenario, it usually opens new possibilities that would be otherwise hidden.
Self-publishing: a trend? a need? a necessity...?
with self publishing you can have a higher control over the quality and appearance of the product, and it can be 100% as you want it to be.
A maxim, a saying to share?
Think less, try more.
